(Sydney Australia)

Hello,I am a 51 yr old woman- very fit, a daily swimmer- non smoker and hardly drink. In january 2009 i collapsed at work after a week of bad headaches- 2 with 'auras'. I had never had headaches anything like that before. I was taken to hospital with a bilateral carotid artery dissection causing a stroke... (Not one but two!!) I was put on heparin in hospital, warfarin for two months and now I am on plavix and crestor. I only have one working carotid artery now and feel twinges in that working side frequently. I hear my pulse as well.
I am concerned it may happen again? And- I don't know how it happenend. Possibly at the gym, but I have a strong immediate family history of stroke ( 2 haemmorage strokes) and anuerysms.( four cerebral anyurysms- 2 fatal)
I have recovered from my stroke with a numb foot and slight speech problem but am otherwise ok. I am often very worried about a recurrence though.
What are my chances??Is my one good artery working too hard? Should I stay on blood thinners forever? Why am I on cholestoral lowering medication?I trawl the internet but have never found the same bilateral dissection.
I would love some info or tips.
Thankyou.
