What is White matter (WM)?
White matter (WM) is the tissue through which messages pass between different area of gray matter (GM) within the nervous system. The brain in general (and especially a child's brain) can adapt to WM damage by finding alternative routes which bypass the damaged areas of WM so that the GM areas remain connected to eachother.
